Ph.D. Programme in Artificial Intelligence

The Ph.D. programme in Artificial Intelligence at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat is designed to cultivate high-quality research and innovation in cutting-edge areas of AI and allied disciplines. The programme aims to develop researchers capable of addressing complex real - world challenges through advanced computational methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches.

Programme Overview

The doctoral programme is offered in both Autumn and Spring semesters. It provides a rigorous academic framework comprising coursework and research, with a minimum duration of three years and a maximum duration of seven years for completion. Scholars are required to complete coursework (minimum 12 credits) followed by focused research under the guidance of faculty experts.

Eligibility

Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in relevant disciplines such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electronics, or allied fields with the prescribed academic performance. Candidates are generally required to have qualified GATE/NET or equivalent national- level examinations for full-time institute-funded positions. Provisions also exist for direct admission of meritorious B.Tech. graduates and experienced industry professionals under specified criteria.

Categories and Financial Support

    The programme accommodates multiple categories of scholars, including:
  • Full-time Institute Research Scholars (FIR) with institute fellowship support
  • Project-funded scholars under sponsored research projects
  • External research scholars (full-time/part-time/sponsored/self-financed)

In addition to institute fellowships (as per Ministry of Education norms), scholars may avail prestigious national-level fellowships such as those offered by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission (UGC-NET), and Department of Science and Technology (DST INSPIRE), etc. subject to eligibility and selection.
