Centre for Tribal Technology Development (CTTD)

Message from HoC

After reaching the pinnacle of the technological era, having all the physical comforts and powerful weapons, we realize that we are left with directionless youth and hopeless elders, separated families, unsatisfied beings, unhealthy food, and broken ecology. On the other hand, it is believed that the last person is the one who has not upgraded with these technologies, resulting in either the upgradation of these people in an urban way or migration of these people. This is a wake-up call to the globe and a rousing call to the nation who is willing to take the lead for the betterment of humankind. The CTTD at SVNIT is an initiative to understand the true development as well as a call for homecoming. This is an initiative to study the ancient knowledge of tribal communities who have successfully lived simple, happy, and sustainable lives for generations. These technologies and methodologies are on the verge of extinction. This is the first platform in India to study their way of living and their technologies as it is and integrate them with the modern scenario appropriately through the following principles:

  • Asmita is about recognizing and celebrating the true identity of tribal communities. Their philosophy, customs, and deep connection with nature enrich our collective heritage. By understanding their Darshan (philosophy), Sanskriti (culture), Dharma (code of conduct), and Parampara (traditions), we reconnect with the very roots of civilization.
  • Astitva focuses on preserving the existence of these communities. Their lives are intertwined with the land, water, forests, and a profound respect for all living beings. Protecting their rights to natural resources and ensuring they have a voice in policies that affect them is not just their need—it's our shared responsibility.
  • Vikas envisions development that resonates with tribal perspectives. True progress embraces their wisdom, integrates modern science with traditional knowledge, and fosters sustainable livelihoods. By addressing poverty and education, we pave the way for communities to thrive while preserving their rich heritage.
With above understanding and motivation, this centre is established at SVNIT, Surat. Hope, it will definitely be helpful for value addition in tribal communities using indigenous resources including knowledge.
