COURSE OBJECTIVES
  • Introduce students to different video codec standards.
  • Introduce students to basic concepts of Video Transmission and Display.
  • Enable students to analyze which coding techniques are required for different video transmission and techniques.

After successful completion of this course, student will be able to

  • Select proper parameters for video display.
  • Determine the bottlenecks in certain phases of video transmission.
  • Understand different coding techniques for video transmission and processing.

    Digital Video, Image and Video Compression Fundamentals, Video Coding Standards: JPEG and MPEG., Video Coding Standards: H.261, H.263 and H.26L

  • Motion Estimation and Compensation
  • (06 Hours)

    Requirements for Motion Estimation and Compensation, Block Matching, Different Motion Estimation Techniques and their comparison, Performance Analysis

  • Coding

    Quantization, Discrete Cosine Transform, Discrete Wavelet Transform, Entropy Coding, Huffman Coding, Arithmetic coding

  • Video Code Design

    Pre-filtering: Camera Noise and Movement, Post-processing: Distortion, De-blocking filter, Error Concealment filter, Error Resilience Rate Control, Rate Distortion, Computational Complexity, Quality of Service Parameters, Codec Interface
