Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SVNIT Surat Established in 1961, Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the biggest departments of the institute with student strength more than 1050. The department presently offers one undergraduate programme in Mechanical Engineering and five masters programmes with specializations in Thermal System Design, Turbomachines, CAD/CAM, Manufacturing Engineering, and General Mechanical Engineering with sanctioned intake of 25 in each programme. Department also offers Master of Technology (Research). More than 100 students are pursuing their doctoral research in several thrust areas of national importance.
Department is organized in three sections for academic and administration purpose:
- Design and Dynamics Section
- Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Section and
- Thermal and Fluid Engineering Section
The department presently has a dynamic and energetic team of 55 faculty members and a team of competent technical staff associated with 26 different laboratories Several state of the art research facilities is available in the department to support our academic programs and research. Project funding from several agencies (approximately 12 crores during last five years) helped us to maintain and modernise our research infrastructure. Department also houses the Central Workshop and Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre (SIC). SIC caters to the need of not only research scholars but also nearby industries for testing of specimens. The department is very well equipped with computational facilities.
