  • Tree Plantation

AMHD came up with an amazing initiative and the one that would prove to be exemplary in the future. Under the guidance of Dr. R.K. Jana , the whole department including all the professors, teaching assistants, PhD students, students from 1st to 5th year MSc planted around 200 trees across the Department building. The whole area around the building was divided into 6 blocks. All saplings were tagged and each member of AMHD took the responsibility of taking care of at least one sapling AMHD collaborated with Native Action Team, an NGO that guides us to take proper care of every tree. Members of NGO visit the deaprtment regularly to ensure the proper growth of trees and also help us in deweeding around the plants. Everyone participated quite enthusiastically and there was a sense of positivity all around. We hope that this essential step taken by our department would inspire many in the future and would help in sustaining the environment.

  • Teacher's Day Celebration

In India, Teachers’ day is celebrated on 5 th September to mark the birth anniversary of our former president Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. Teachers are the ones who establish young minds and thus are indeed the nation builders. Our department celebrated Teachers’ Day in order to honor our teachers and mentors. Third year students took the initiative and organized the whole program that resulted in great success. There were games, quiz, talks by alumni, dance performances, life lessons and many more in which all the students of our department participated enthusiastically. The teachers also showed interest and participated in small riddles and games.

  • Library Reopening

Reopening the departmental library was one of the major and successful decisions made by our seniors and professors. The funding for the library is done by NBHM(National Board of Higher Mathematics). It sends books both on demand and as an annual ritual to our library. In 2018, a complete room for the library was allotted in the new department. Students have now got a good space where they can come, sit, discuss, read and do their work. 2nd year students were recruited to work as librarians. Each member takes out some time from their regular schedule and sits for an allocated time period of around one and a half hours every day. Today, the library consists of almost 700 books which can be issued and all the dissertations from the very first batch to the most recent one. Issuing or returning of books takes place after lunch(i.e. after 2:00 pm) on all working days and before lunch(i.e. before 12:30 pm) on Saturdays. This year it has been planned to officially reopen the library on 19th August, 2019(Monday).
