About IIW SVNIT

The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) is a national level professional body of welding fraternity devoted to the promotion and advancement of welding science & technology. It was established on 22nd April 1966 with its head office at Kolkata. It has 12 branches all over India. It has about 5500+ members & over 300+ industries as Industrial Corporate Members.
The IIW-India Baroda Branch was founded on 29th August, 1998 and has strength of about 550+ members. Baroda Branch Managing Committee consists of highly dedicated, motivated and experienced team of personnel drawn from various industries & academic institutions. The IIW-India Baroda branch has several student chapters operating under it, one of which is our IIW-SVNIT student chapter.
The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW) Student Chapter at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) is a vibrant techno-managerial community dedicated to advancing knowledge and skills in welding, fabrication, and allied technologies. As an affiliate of the International Institute of Welding, the chapter integrates education, research, and industry exposure to nurture globally competent engineers.
Made up of curious and motivated students, IIW SVNIT strives to explore, experiment, and share learning through various activities, including workshops, seminars, industrial visits, expert talks, and hands-on projects. The chapter bridges the gap between classroom learning and industry practices by providing internship opportunities and career-building exposure.

Events

IIW SVNIT organizes and participates in a diverse range of technical and managerial events, both on and off campus, providing members with invaluable exposure and learning opportunities.

  1. Workshops – WeldWorks/MasterWeld: The chapter organizes a workshop known as WeldWorks as part of Mindbend, SVNIT's techno-managerial fest. In this workshop, IIW-SVNIT members present information about welding technology, its importance, and its future prospects to spark student interest. Participants are given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). The workshop also includes a demonstration of high-tech plasma arc welding.
  2. Event 1
  3. Industrial Visits: The chapter arranges insightful industrial visits (recently visited , during such visits, students can witness large-scale manufacturing, heavy machinery, and advanced welding techniques firsthand, which enhances their practical understanding of engineering concepts.
  4. Event 2
  5. National Competitions: Members actively represent the institute in national- level competitions.
  6. Event 2

  7. Trash to Treasure: The chapter participates in the "Project Trash to Treasure" competition, an annual event organized by the Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India). This event encourages teams of creative welders to transform unused metal scrap into innovative works of art. The competition's goal is to create art that serves as a form of social intervention, inspiring and educating viewers.
  8. National Level Quiz:Students take part in the National Level Quiz Competition on Welding Technology. The competition brings together students from institutions across India, fostering a competitive environment for learning and knowledge acquisition.
  9. Event 2
  10. Expert Talks: The chapter hosts expert talks where faculty members discuss topics such as the initiatives of IIW-India, the role of the Students' Chapter, the scope for engineers from different fields, and the types of welding used in various industries.
  11. In-House Events – Cadventure: "Cadventure" is an internal event organized by IIW students with the aim of teaching Computer-Aided Design (CAD). In this event, students learn from mentors and showcase their CAD skills, which helps foster interest in design software.
  12. Event 2
  13. Professional Networking – IIW Anniversary: Chapter members get the opportunity to attend professional events like the Foundation Day anniversary of the IIW-India Baroda Branch. These events offer valuable opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and professional development within the welding community. For the members, this experience serves as a gateway to the professional world, allowing them to engage with experts, learn about cutting-edge technologies, and see how a shared passion drives progress in the field.
